The Roosevelt Campobello International Park announces it will be moving the Tea with Eleanor program to one location for the 2017 season. In an effort to insure the continued success and longevity of the program the Park will move the entire Tea with Eleanor Program to a new location, the historic Wells-Shober Cottage. The Park also announces that Tea will be free for children age twelve and under. The program will be available for group bookings from tour groups, community groups and schools both at and away from the Park.
By moving the entire program to the Wells-Shober Cottage, the Park hopes to reduce the confusion caused by holding the program in two locations. The 11 am and 3 pm free Open teas that were held at the Hubbard Cottage will be combined into one free tea at 11 am at the Wells-Shober Cottage. The changes are outlined as follows:
The Open Tea with Eleanor will no longer be offered at the Hubbard Cottage. The two twenty (20) seat free tea programs have been combined into a 40 seat free tea at the Wells-Shober Cottage. The free tea will be at 11 am Atlantic Time (10 am Eastern Time). Tickets are available at the Visitor Centre on a first come first serve basis. The first Open tea begins on opening day, Saturday, May 27th.
The afternoon Reserve Teas held at Wells-Shober at 1 pm and 4 pm Atlantic Time (noon and 3 pm Eastern Time) will return as before. Visitors can still make a reservation and purchase tickets on-line at http://www.fdr.net/tea-with-eleanor.php. The first Reserve Tea begins Sunday, June, 11th.
The Park is happy to announce the price for the Reserve Tea will remain the same as in 2016, at $14.00 plus HST. This year, children 12 years of age and under will be admitted free.
Wells-Shober cottage is located just across highway 774 next to Greggs Field. Guests may walk the approximate ¼ mile along clearly marked paths or may drive from the Visitor Centre and park in Greggs Field.
Recent renovations to the Wells-Shober Cottage include a handicapped washroom and ramp access.
The Wells – Shober Cottage is the oldest cottage the Roosevelt Campobello International Park has in it possession, originally constructed in 1884 for Samuel Wells, one of the founding members of the Campobello Company before 1900. Rex Shober a lawyer from Philadelphia whose wife Edith was Samuel Wells daughter, later acquired the cottage. The cottage sold in 1955 to Lydie Brown who operated it as a boarding house and gift shop until 1965 when it was purchased by the Roosevelt Campobello International Park.
The Tea Program can now come to you. The Park announces group tea presentations can be arranged to come to your location. In an additional outreach effort the Park also announces the Tea program is available to school groups and non-profit organizations.
Roosevelt Park’s Tea with Eleanor program is entering its seventh season. It’s popularity is credited with bring Eleanor Roosevelt’s story back to the Park.
